Description

Founded in 1995, AleSmith continues to be recognized as one of the world’s foremost craft breweries on the strength of numerous awards garnered at prestigious local, national, and international competitions.  AleSmith started in a single small-unit space in the commercial district of Miramar, San Diego packed with a 15-bbl. brew system, tasting bar, office, and a three-man team. It was their Belgian Golden Strong Ale with coriander that won over the crowds at the Great American Beer Festival and created awareness about their brand. In 2002, Grand Master Judge and decorated home brewer, Peter Zien, took ownership, which further solidified their reputation.  The Speedway Stout recipe was created in 2003. It was the first release from the barrel, a 12% brew that was aged in bourbon barrels and has been consistently recognized as one of the best beers in the world.  Consistently ranked in the World’s Top Ten list on Ratebeer, AleSmith is currently ranked 6th out of 33,000 breweries worldwide. AleSmith is family-owned and community-minded. In 2015, the company closed its original location and expanded into a bigger facility to increase its production and showcase a custom Steinecker 85 bbl. brew system, San Diego’s largest tasting room, and a museum.
