Description

It all started with a Christmas party in 2015 where a group of friends realized simultaneously that they could start a brewery together as they each had an important piece of the brewery puzzle that if, put together could be actually something. The idea of where to brew was easy, as head brewer, John Folinsbee was situated in Squamish so that was where they went. This was all great timing as BC’s craft beer scene was gaining momentum.  Fast forward many years later as Backcountry grew into not just a brewery production facility, but also a tasting room, kitchen and retail store, and last but not least, a brand-new barrel room. The kitchen has a great rep for its pizzas, salads and snacks thanks to red seal chef Jules Laporte, for the 70’s ski cabin inspired tasting room. At the BC Beer awards, Backcountry was awarded “Rookie of the Year” with medals for all three core beers as well as “Best Social Media”.  And if that wasn’t enough, back in 2022 the brewery decided to expand and release over 90 different limited release beers on top of their already expanded year-round beers, Widowmaker IPA, Trailbreaker Pale Ale, and of course the Ridgerunner Pilsner. Backcountry’s Pilsner, is characteristically dry and hoppy with a pretty bitterness that peeks out in the background.
