Profile

Smell

A combination of roasted coffee beans, sweet molasses, and the strong kick of the bourbon barrels - slightly smoky and sweet.

Taste

A straight through Porter flavour, even with the barrel aging under its belt. The age likely contributes to the silky character of the body, but where you’d expect more of the bourbon influence, it just tints the flavour, nothing over the top. Subtle flavour of roasted coffee and molasses, and a dry finish. The flavour hits and then is gone quickly, this is one you’ll want to stop and savour a bit.

Pairing

Anything rich and fatty off the grill would complement this beer well.

Sight

Pours nearly pitch black with light carbonation. A little frothy ring of bubbles clings to the glass, but quickly goes away.

Description

A humble place of quiet devotion to the brewing of grains and yeast, resulting in the finest of creations: beer. In central Alberta resides these monks of the hop, spilling out a handful of well-crafted beers into shiny pint glasses in their respectable tap room, and now their work spreads out across the North and down into the world at large. Blindman Brewing began in 2014 and quietly insinuated their excellent craft beer into Alberta’s exploding micro- and craft-beer scene. Their humble and spartan attitude toward making great beers spills over into their taproom and onto their image across the world. They are here to produce simply great work that speaks for itself from the moment the cap is popped off. The Super 8 is a porter aged in old bourbon barrels, giving it a unique aroma and strong character. Dark, smooth, and deep in flavour, it has all the best qualities of Porter with a few unique turns. Serves well at 10°C and can cellar for up to a year.
