Description

Bow River is all about tradition meeting contemporary. Their focus is on using local grains and traditional methods to make tasty, crushable beer. The brewery has been in operation since 2019 and offer on tap 10+ beers that are both core beers and seasonal. Founded by a husband-and-wife team, Ian and Beatrice Binmore. Ian, is a former home brewer who brewed his own beers throughout his stint while attending USC’s engineering program in the 80’s. It was here in California, that Ian was exposed to a terrific craft beer scene and beers from such breweries such as Sierra Nevada and Anderson Valley that grew his interest even more. He learned recipes from sharing and trading secrets with fellow home brewers late at night in a sandwich shop, kind of an after-hours club. Later on, he met Beatrice (a native of Germany) at a conference in Houston, while she was studying for her MBA in Texas (who incidentally received her PhD in chemistry at the University of Edinburgh. The two together would be a perfect pairing to start a brewery right here in Calgary, Alberta. As an engineer, Ian has been pretty handy, he tweaked the machinery used in the brewery to be more efficient i.e., self-cleaning, etc.
