Profile

Smell

Deep roasted aroma that leans so heavily into the darkness that it smells like a bowl of soy sauce. There’s some sweet hops around the edges as well.

Taste

The roasted coffee and nutty flavour hits fast and stays with you. There’s some sweetness that drifts in but it’s hard to identify, and the hops open up with some herbal and grassy flavours. The body is mostly smooth but trends toward a dry finish. Big and bold, this is a beer with a serious agenda.

Pairing

The brewer recommends a beef stew and who are we to argue with genius?

Sight

Pours black as pitch with low carbonation. A thin head of dark bubbles pours from the can but slowly gives up and fades away.

Description

The creators of Camp Beer Co. set out to create a relaxed meeting spot in the Fraser Valley, but one with tasty craft beers to make that meeting all the more desirable. Camp puts a lot of value on their community and encourages local artists to perform music, bring art, and otherwise enjoy the space in good company with the people who make the area their home. Their brewing sensibilities lean toward the adventurous - plenty of twists on classic styles and collaborations with other brewers gives Camp Beer Co. a fascinating history of beers they’ve released and something interesting for every beer drinker in their taproom. The Hunter’s Cove is a Baltic-style porter, a lagered porter with sweeter characteristics and relying on a backbone of European malts. Serves well at 9°C and can cellar for up to six months.
