Description
Clown Shoes began in 2009 when the Founder and CEO of the brand, Greg Berman, brewed a small batch of a black IPA called “Hoppy Feet”. He didn’t have his own brewery at the time so he partnered with Ipswich Ale Brewing to help him create his first beer. The brew was a hit among the locale of Boston and this in turn prompted Greg to create some more beer. He turned to the head brewer at Ipswich, Dan Lipke to help him develop and trial other traditional styles of beer but made in Greg’s own way. The next beer that came out was Josh the Guava King-a double IPA that was brewed using guava puree. The success of these beers further helped Clown Shoes to more than double their production in the second year, from 700 barrels to 1500 barrels and with this growth, came external distribution outside of Massachusetts to other states. In late 2017 Clown Shoes made the decision to join Mass Bay Brewing Company. This is the Brewer for such labels as Harpoon and UFO. With their great resources and capabilities, Clown Shoes has been able to expand their special release program as well as their barrel aging program. With their keen insight on style and dedication to quality, Clown Shoes has been a success from the very start. The idea behind the name is to remind people that beer shouldn’t be pretentious and should always be fun to drink.
