Profile

Smell

The leathery funk and tart cherries jump out quickly, making a bold impression. There’s a hint of sweeter fruit behind the funk you can pick up if you pay attention.

Taste

The nose might scare you but the flavour eases off on the leathery and funkiness, giving you a lean, tasty sour that has the barnyard qualities but not in an “in your face” way. The leather tones down, letting the funk and cherries mix together, making room for some of the floral and herbal qualities of the hops to show up. All together this is a balanced, funky sour that almost any beer drinker can appreciate.

Pairing

A good candidate for a cheese omelet with sour-dough toast OR you could get wild and have seafood crêpes.

Sight

Pours a light yellow colour with a clear body and low carbonation. Very little by way of a head on the pour.

Description

Dandy Brewing is one of Calgary’s biggest craft brew success stories. There are more than a few operations that have kicked into gear in the past ten years, but Dandy has set itself apart through a consistent program of marque beers and a tight taproom experience that has tasty food to match their 20 tap selection. And now they’ve joined forces with Dageraad Brewing in Burnaby, B.C., another small brewer that has garnered a big reputation. Dageraad is all about experimentation with their beers, trying on funky yeasts, wild hops, and biotransformation techniques. Together, these two brewers created the “Wizard.” A Saison with delicious fruit character, tasty spices to wake up the senses, and Farmhouse funk to land the unique flight emblematic of both these brewing houses. The Wizard has all that funk while delivering notes of fresh leather and ripe cherries, built on a lean, crispy body that’s refreshing and easy to quaff. Serves well at 8°C and can cellar for six months. But why wait?
