Description

Fuggles Beer Co is Richmond’s first production brewery. Started in 2015 by two Richmond-based entrepreneurs, Dan Colyer and Tony Laci, this brewery has already gained quite a following in Canada and in countries like Japan, Taiwan, Korea and Brazil (which represents 10% of their sales). The branding is what first catches your eye. The motto of the brewery “keeping beer weird” can be taken literally when you look at their choice of labelling. It’s a cross between a “geek culture” concept, video gaming, comic books and movies with characters from those featured on the packages for different beer series. Their taproom is most definitely an ode to gaming if there ever was one. Even the name of the Brewery “Fuggles & Warlock” are the nicknames of the two master brewers. Everything they do is unconventional right down to their beer recipes.  They don’t prescribe to the usual German or English recipes but rather experiment and brew beers that are considered “non-traditional”. They are well known for trying out different flavour profiles and combinations which makes them very eye-catching. The Pixel Pilsner is a quaffable example of Czech-based pilsner that has hints of faint white bread notes and toasty malts mixed with a bit of vegetal aromas. Clean and crisp with a refreshing mouthfeel and balanced acidity.
