Description

Gahan is a name synonymous with Prince Edward Island. It’s the name of John Gahan, who in the middle of the 19th century was a prominent merchant, an importer of teas, wine, and family groceries. His place of business was on the corner of Queen and Sydney Streets in Charlottetown, which is now known as the Gahan House.  The brewery was established in March of 1997 (formerly Murphy’s Brewing Co.) and quickly became a favourite of the locals. The brewery moved to its current location, the Gahan House, and was able to double its production capacity.   The brewery made history on July 21st, 2008, by bottling two of their handcrafted ales, Island Red Premium Ale and Honey Wheat Ale. These two were launched as the first two flavours to be bottled by the brewery.  The original brewer, Trent Hayes, who was with the brewery since the beginning is still with Gahan today as the Brewery Operations Manager. In 2014, Gahan established a sister location across the water on the historic Halifax Waterfront. With the success of this brewpub, the Gahan family established locations in Saint John, Fredericton, Moncton, and St. John’s, expanding the family business in all four Atlantic provinces.
